There are three orders of amphibians in the world: Anura, Caudata, and Gymnophiona. The AmphibiaWeb database currently contains 6,649 amphibian species (Mar 16, 2010) , of which 5,878 are Anura (frogs and toads), 585 are Caudata (newts and salamanders), and 186 are Gymnophiona (caecilians). The numbers of species have grown rapidly. Since 1985 the total number of recognized species has increased by over 60%.
