Description
Austrochaperina aquilonia has a slender body with a head width equal to that of the body. The snout is bluntly pointed when viewed dorsally and protruding when viewed laterally. Nostrils are visible from above with a canthus rostralis that is evident and rounded. The loreal region is steep with a flat slope. Eyelid width is less than the interorbital distance. This species can be identified with the following combination of characters: moderate size (31 mm male, no females were collected), unwebbed toes; small hands; finger discs are small (3rd finger disc/SVL is 0.021-0.026); internarial distance is broad (IN/SVL 0.111-0.118). Relative finger lengths are as follows: 3>4>2>1. Digit one is half the length of digit two. All discs with terminal groove. Relative toe lengths are 4>3>5>2>1 with grooved terminal discs. Subarticular tubercles are extremely low. Dorsal skin is slightly granular with a faint, curved, postorbital-supratympanic fold. Coloration is a pale gray-brown with many darker blotches. Snout and face are dark brown with a lighter pattern on upper lips. Chin and chest are brown with white spotting.
