This species is known only from the vicinity of the type locality, Parque Nacional do Itatiaia (Brejo da Lapa, Alto Itatiaia) on the border of the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, Brazil, from 1,800-2,400m asl. This is a poorly sampled species that might occur somewhat more widely.
Habitat and Ecology
It has been recorded from montane secondary forest and shrubland, and also from farmland. It breeds in permanent streams.
It is fairly common.
This species is threatened by habitat loss due to logging and agricultural encroachment.
Its range includes Parque Nacional do Itatiaia, although conservation and maintenance of its habitat are needed.
This species was previously within the genus Hyla but has recently been moved to the genus Bokermannohyla (Faivovich et al. 2005).
