This species occurs in the Montañas del Mico and the northern slopes of the eastern portion of the Sierra de las Minas, in the Departamento de Izabal, eastern Guatemala, at 591-786m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
Although it is found at relatively low elevations, it lives in typical cloud forest conditions with frequent fog and drizzling rain. It is found in undisturbed forest only. It breeds by direct development and is not dependent on water.
It is a rare species.
Small-scale wood extraction is taking place, but much of its habitat is included in a protected area.
It occurs in the Montanos del Mico Catchment Reserve, and might also occur in Parque Nacional Sierra de las Minas. Close population monitoring is required given that this species is known from only a few sites.
This species was previously included in the genus Eleutherodactylus (Crawford and Smith 2005).
