This species is known from southern Shaanxi, southern Gansu, eastern Sichuan and central Anhui provinces in central China, from 600-2,500m asl. It probably occurs more widely than current records suggest, especially in areas between known sites.
Habitat and Ecology
It inhabits paddy fields, shrubland, grassland, edges of rivers and ponds in hilly areas. It breeds in still water in paddy fields and pools.
It is declining over some parts of its range.
Habitat destruction and degradation are major threats to this species.
The range of this species overlaps with a number of protected areas in the region.
