Taxonomic Notes

Frost (2007) indicates that Hyloxalus maculosus was removed from the synonymy of Colostethus bocagei by Santos et al. (2003), by implication of their placement of this taxon in a phylogenetic tree away from Colostethus bocagei, where it had been placed by Coloma (1995); but Coloma in Duellman (2004) suggested that Colostethus maculosus remains a synonym of Colostethus bocagei, which is contrary to the results of Santos et al. (2003).
