This species is known from only two localities in south-eastern Brazil: Barro Branco, Duque de Caxias, in the state of Rio de Janeiro (the type locality); and Linhares, in the state of Espírito Santo.
Habitat and Ecology
It is presumed to live in the rainforest and to breed in water.
Its population status is unknown because of the taxonomic problems associated with this species.
There is no information on this species' major threats.
The taxonomic identity of this species clearly needs to be resolved.
This species was previously within the genus Hyla but has recently been moved to the resurrected genus Hypsiboas (Faivovich et al. 2005). The taxonomy of this species is confused and the identity of this species is unclear (Potsch de Carvalho-e-Silva pers. comm.).
