This species is known only from the type locality, Baiyer River Sanctuary, in Western Highlands Province, Papua New Guinea, at 1,200-1,500m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It lives and presumably breeds in mountain streams in rainforest.
It has only been found twice, the last time being in 1987. It is not common in its only known locality.
There is no information on threats to this species.
There should be further documentation of its distribution, and its population status also requires monitoring, particularly given the declines of torrent-dwelling hylids in Australia. It should be noted that the Baiyer River Sanctuary is a small zoo, and not a protected area.
