Range Description

This species is known from four localities between the Star Mountains and Haia on the southern side of the central mountains of Papua New Guinea, covering a linear distance of about 430 kilometres. It occurs from 300-1,200m asl.

Habitat and Ecology

It is found around forest pools in foothill rainforests. It breeds in temporary pools and swamps, and has also been observed breeding in seepages and ditches.

Population

It is a relatively uncommon species.

Major Threats

Some breeding sites in the Star Mountains have been destroyed by gardens (S. Richards pers. obs.).

Conservation Actions

The distribution of this species needs to be properly documented. It is known to occur within two protected areas.
