This species is known only from southern Guyana and northern Brazil, and from north-central Bolivia. Its apparently fragmented distribution might be a reflection of the taxonomic problems associated with this species. It has an altitudinal range of 150-400m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It is an aquatic species of open flooded savannah areas, and floating meadows of large rivers. It breeds in the associated waterways.
It is common where it occurs.
No major threats are known.
It is presumed to be present in several national parks.
