This species is known only from a few localities in the north east of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. It presumably occurs in suitable habitat between these localities. It occurs around 500m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It is an aquatic species that occurs in permanent ponds and still-water pools of slow moving streams near larger rivers in open areas. They breed in pools and streams. It has also been found in human habitats that have large water reservoirs.
It is a locally common species.
Habitat loss due to agricultural encroachment, infrastructure development for human settlement and agricultural pollution are threats to the species.
It is not known whether or not this species occurs in any protected areas. More research into the species' Extent of Occurrence, ecological requirements and population status is needed.
Caramaschi and Cruz (1998) revalidated this species and resurrected it from the synonymy of Pseudis paradoxa.
