This species can be found in Northeastern Argentina (Buenos Aires, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Misiones, Santa Fe and Santiago del Estero), Uruguay, and extreme southern Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina) from 0-500m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It is an aquatic species that occurs and reproduces in ponds and still-water pools of slowly moving creeks. Does not tolerate habitat disturbance that causes the disappearance of water (such as the drainage of wetlands).
It is very common and stable.
There are no major threats. It apparently thrives in rice plantations that receive heavy doses of pesticides.
It occurs in several protected areas.
