Description
This species is known only from the preserved holotype (Lichtenstein and Martens 1856).

Endemic to Sri Lanka; the type locality and habitat are not known, as the collecting locality was described only as "Ceylon" by Lichtenstein and Martens (1856).

Life History, Abundance, Activity, and Special Behaviors
It presumably bred by direct development, like other members of the genus Pseudophilautus (Stuart et al. 2008).

Trends and Threats
Extensive field surveys have not turned up any living representatives of this species; it is believed to be extinct. The exact cause for extinction is not known. Habitat loss (via deforestation) is thought to be a major factor (Stuart et al 2008).

Specimens from the Western Ghats of India which were previously described as Pseudophilautus leucorhinus have now been referred to Pseudophilautus wynaadensis (Bossuyt and Dubois 2001; Manamendra-Arachchi et al. 2004).
