This species is known from the highlands of Poços de Caldas to the southern part of Serra do Espinhaço, in Brazil. It has been recorded from above 800m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It occurs in open areas on low vegetation near permanent or temporary ponds. The spawn are deposited in temporary or permanent ponds, and attached to the vegetation. It adapts well to anthropogenic disturbance.
It is a common species.
Agriculture, both crops and livestock, as well as mining and fires are major threats to the species’ habitat.
Its range includes several protected areas. Taxonomic research to resolve this species complex is needed.
