This species is widely distributed in eastern Brazil, from the State of Rio de Janeiro, north to the State of Paraíba, with an apparently isolated population in the State of Maranhão. It occurs up to 1,000m asl.
Habitat and Ecology
It is an adaptable species that lives in primary and secondary forest, on forest edges, and in a variety of open habitats. It has also been found inside houses. It is often found on low vegetation near ponds, lakes or flooded areas. It breeds in temporary and permanent ponds.
It is a reasonably common species.
Apart from clear-cutting, this species does not face any serious threats.
It occurs in several protected areas.
It is probably a complex of several species (A. Carnaval pers. comm.)
