Accessing Data From AmphibiaWeb

Please see our Data Use Policy before reading further.

We make corrections, add text, add images, update content etc. on a continual basis, and we want the most current set of information to be the only one generally available to all Internet users. If you are interested in using our content, then the best way would be accessing our content dynamically. Please contact us if you are interested in using our web services to dynamically retrieve:

  • AmphibiaWeb species account information: Retrieve as XML.
  • Species taxonomy: access our daily updated taxonomy list including synonyms, either tab-delimited text or as JSON
  • Species Lists by Locality: Learn how to retrieve a list of species for a country, or for some countries, by state or province.

  • Amphibian range maps: Many of these are supplied by our partners at the IUCN Redlist, especially non-North American taxa and must be retrieved from their site. Range maps are also created by the AmphibiaWeb team and may be accessed directly or from our Github site. We follow (mostly) the IUCN Redlist metadata standards.
  • Amphibian images on AmphibiaWeb are supplied by CalPhotos and may only be used in accordance with the usage guidelines provided with the image. Many CalPhotos photographers choose one of the Creative Commons licenses, and as a matter of courtesy and policy, the photographer must be clearly credited with the image.
